Otter Co-op is now hiring a Full-Time Liquor Store Associate (Manager Trainee) at our Tranquille Liquor Store located in Kamloops, BC.

What you’ll do:

Reporting to the Liquor Store Manager and Category Manager the Liquor Store Associate (Manager Trainee) will be trained and mentored to lead the day-to-day operations of the department in providing quality products and services in our store. Once training is complete, they will be responsible for providing and implementing strategic direction, coaching, training, and leading team members while making safety a top priority in carrying out daily job duties. This leader will bring a positive approach; show initiative and drive results; someone who can build and maintain relationships with guests and with the team members while ensuring that the administrative requirements of the role are fully maintained.

Responsibilities for this position include the following:

  • Overseeing of the daily operation and management of the liquor store in accordance with company policies, procedures, and overall expectations
  • Provide ongoing written and verbal feedback to the Category Manager
  • Provide direction and leadership toward building an ongoing positive, highly motivated team
  • Ensure the store’s merchandising standards are being managed and maintained and all programs are being implemented, measured, and managed
  • Ensure the store’s housekeeping, sanitation and maintenance schedules/standards are managed and maintained
  • Directly responsible to ensure the store adheres to BCLDB operating guidelines and all government regulations in labeling, pricing, sanitation, and food safety
  • Attend and actively participate in commodity, leadership, and safety meetings
  • Directly responsible for team member relations, including hiring, training and development and performance management
  • Provide leadership in the areas of Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S)
  • Provide excellent customer service to guests in a courteous, efficient manner
  • Process register transactions, refunds, and returns, activate gift cards
  • Ensure register drawer is balanced at the end of shift following company procedures
  • Stock, face, and rotate products on the shelves
  • Receive, check, and put away deliveries
  • Keep store and storage areas clean and organized
  • Utilize product knowledge to promote sales
  • Contribute to the Team in living the Corporate Values of Integrity, Community and Excellence

Who you are:

You are looking for a career in Retail Operations Management and:

  • Work experience in leading and managing people is an asset as is several years’ experience in the liquor industry
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and the ability to manage computer files efficiently
  • Serving it Right license is required
  • Enjoy working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Team player with strong communication skills
  • Problem solver and quick learner
  • WSET Designation considered an asset
  • Ability to physically lift, push, pull up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be committed to a SAFE working environment
  • MUST be over 19 years of age to be considered
  • MUST be available 7 days a week to work between early mornings, afternoons, and late evenings
