Co-operative Coffee: A Taste of Perfection

Co-operative Coffee: A Taste of Perfection
September 25, 2023

Do you know what special holiday is just around the corner? September 29th is National Coffee Day! Yep, it's that wonderful time when we get to celebrate the world's favourite beverage, and if you're anything like us, that first cup in the morning is practically a lifeline.

A cup of good coffee is practically an art form, but that’s why we love Co-operative Coffee. It's not just any regular cup; it's our in-house brand, and it's got a lot that sets it apart from the rest and makes it the perfect choice for us and our families. So, grab your favourite mug, and let's dive into a coffee adventure that's not just about caffeine but also about taste, quality, and making a positive impact.

The Co-operative Coffee Story

Our coffee isn't just called Co-operative; it embodies the spirit of collaboration in every sip. We've joined forces with Co-op, a master roaster based in BC, and our dedicated suppliers from across the globe to craft blends that redefine excellence. Together, we've curated the perfect beans, ensuring you can brew a cup of unparalleled quality right in your own home.
Co-op's commitment to cooperation extends beyond our name. Take, for instance, our Nicaraguan beans – they're not just organic and fair trade; they're sourced from Reyna del Café, which translates to 'Queen of Coffee.' Nestled in northern Nicaragua, this tight-knit community cooperative comprises 169 farmers who prioritize the well-being of their local farming families.

"On a seasonal basis, we’ll be procuring beans directly from growers Sav Bellissimo, Store Brands Manager with Federated Co-operatives Limited. "Direct trade and fair trade are methods we use to source beans in a sustainable and socially responsible manner."

In the realm of direct trade, Co-op collaborates directly with growers through Axiom Coffee Ventures. This partnership establishes not only the quality and price of coffee beans but also benefits the growers themselves. Axiom's role does not sell coffee or beans; rather, it serves as a bridge, connecting small-scale farmers with companies and meticulously tracking the impact of these relationships.

Co-operative Coffee's involvement in direct trade features a limited-time product from the Asociación Agrícola Productores Orgánicos Xejuyú Atitlán (AAPOSA), a 156-member cooperative in Guatemala. This remarkable coffee boasts a luscious chocolate flavor complemented by fruity undertones, culminating in a refreshingly clean and well-balanced finish.

Brewing Tips and Recipes

Want to learn how you can use Co-operative coffee to make your specialty drink right at home? Use these tips!

Make a Latte with a French Press

Indulge in the creamy delight of a perfectly frothed latte, even without a milk frother. Grab your French press, heat your milk, and pump the plunger a few times for frothy magic. Then, pour it over your Co-operative Coffee for a velvety treat. Get creative with coffee art for bonus points!

Make an At-Home Mocha

When craving something sweet but in need of that caffeine kick, there's nothing quite like a mocha. Add a tablespoon of Co-op Gold Instant Hot Chocolate to your next cup of Co-operative Coffee and top off with warm milk.

Make a Cold Brew Anytime

If you're missing the summer weather, here's a trick. Enjoy on-demand cold brew or iced coffee at home. Make coffee ice cubes by pouring freshly brewed Co-operative Coffee into an ice tray and allowing it to reach room temperature before popping into the freezer. Once these coffee cubes are frozen solid, you can effortlessly transfer them to a glass and top with milk.

Need a pick-me-up on the road? We also serve Co-operative Coffee at all our Gas Bars and Convenience Stores. Find a location near you.
