What To Do Between Christmas and New Year's
ActionsWith Christmas and Boxing Day behind us, we’ve officially entered the merry interlude – the hazy lull that occurs between Christmas and New Years. Unless you’re clocking into work, time doesn’t exist in the merry interlude, and just about anything goes. Things that may otherwise be considered pathetic or pitiful become socially acceptable, normal even. So, if you feel like doing absolutely nothing and not leaving your couch for 3 days in a row, that’s perfectly fine, in fact the merry interlude encourages it. This week, we’ve put together a list of things you can do in the merry interlude to occupy your time!
Rest and Relaxation
Sit back, kick up your feet, and relax! Take the time to unwind and enjoy a break from your usual routine and all the Holiday frenzy. Use the opportunity to reset yourself before getting back into the monotony of your everyday life.
Easy Activities
If you’re not the kind of person who can do absolutely nothing to relax without feeling guilt, don’t worry we’ve you covered. Engage in an easy-going activity that still allows you to “chill-out” while keeping yourself occupied. Read a new book or finish off the one you said you’d get back to but then never did. If you’re not a bookworm, embark on a movie or TV series marathon – let’s be real it’s now or never to get to watch that show everyone around you seems to reference or talk about constantly. Maybe you’re all you’re all movie marathon-ed out after all those Christmas movies and looking for something different. In that case, when was the last time you tried to make a puzzle?
Spend Time with Your Loved Ones
When we say loved ones, we mean the ones you actually like and enjoy the company of, not the one’s you’re forced to “love”. At this point you’ve survived Christmas with the people you were required to spend it with, maybe it was your family that drives you up the wall with or your overbearing in-laws. Either way, the main act is behind you, and you have a few days to recuperate before New Years, so try to surround yourself with the people who actually make you feel good.
Clean and Declutter
To walk into the New Year clutter free, you’ve got to take out the trash out. And, we’re not just talking about the bags sitting in your garbage bin, its time to clear out that emotional baggage you’ve probably been lugging around on your phone too. The holidays are a hectic time and things can get messy. So, take some time to tidy up and put things back where they belong, wipe down surfaces that might’ve seen some spills, clean out your pantry (if there’s anything left after hosting all those Holiday dinners), and clean up any remaining holiday debris. Take it a step further and clean out your devices too. Go through your computer and delete any old unnecessary files taking up storage. Do the same with your phone, rid yourself of any apps, emails, pictures, and chats with people you don’t associate with anymore.
Make A Vision Board
If you’re not familiar with the concept, a vision board is a visual representation of your goals, aspirations, and dreams. Its created by compiling together images, graphics, words, and other elements of your choosing that tangibly embody your vision and remind you focus on the outcomes you want to see. So, if you’re someone who enjoys the occasional artsy activity and don’t want to sit in a zombie-like state staring at a screen watching Netflix for 3 days straight, think about what you want in the coming year and make a vision board to help you manifest it into reality.
While navigating the merry interlude between Christmas and New Year’s, remember to embrace the period of joy and relaxation – it only comes around once a year after all. As we send off the old and welcome the new, we wish you a very Happy New Year!
